Funeral service for Lewie Rogers, 90, will be today at 11 a.m. at Johnson Chapel UMC in Danville with Bro. Tom Salter, Bro. Roger Penn and Bro. Forrest Long officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial will be in Johnson Chapel Cemetery. Visitation was Friday, March 21, 2014, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Rogers died on Wednesday, March 19, 2014, at Mobile Infirmary Medical Center in Mobile. He was born February 22, 1924, in Morgan County to Henry Rogers and Ora Belle Roberts Rogers. Mr. Rogers was a Veteran of World War II, where he served in the Navy. He attended the last two reunions of his Destoyer, the U.S.S. Waldron (DD699). He served on the Board with the Wolverine Credit Union and was a Mason (Nunn-Oden Lodge #398) in Hartselle.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy Rogers; one
daughter, Pam Chaffin, Spanish Fort, Al; two sisters, Eloise Livingston, Michigan, and Dannie McCarley, Muscle Shoals; and one grandchild, Evelyn Chaffin.
Pallbearers will be Bud Burchell, Kevin Long, Frank Ellis, Brent Jacobs, Luke Jacobs and Gerald Penn.
Honorary pallbearers will be Milford Fields and Billy Wynn.
In lieu of flowers, family requests that memorial donations be made to Johnson Chapel UMC.
