Leonard Richardson “Rick” Warren

Leonard Richardson “Rick” Warren, age 76, of Huntsville, Alabama, passed away on February 28, 2021.

Rick was born on June 13, 1944. At the age of 14, he started working at a radio station in Danville Virginia.  He graduated from George Washington High School in 1962.  He then joined Uncle Sam’s Service in the US Navy for 4 years.  Most of his service was onboard the USS Enterprise aircraft carrier.  He returned to Danville, VA to work at 3 radio stations plus trained to become a police officer in the Danville Police Department.  In 1970, he gave his life to God and attended Springfield Baptist Bible College where he was quickly hired to host radio talk and music shows at the college radio station and KTTS.  Upon graduation, Rick started Blue Ridge Baptist Temple in Martinsville, VA.  Once again, radio stations came looking for Rick and he often would host programs for them.  Rick was hired by WBHP to build the station into a powerhouse.  And Bonnie Warren asked for a job on-air at the station.  After working radio in Tallahassee and Panama City Florida, the Warrens moved to Lynchburg VA where Rick worked for Liberty University.  Bonnie’s mom became very ill and the Warren’s moved to Huntsville in 2008 and began attending West Huntsville Baptist Church.

Mr. Warren was preceded in death by a granddaughter: Breeanna Fields.

He is survived by his wife: Bonnie Frieda “Jennifer” Warren; his children: Derise (David) Davis, Kristi Kazeem, J.J. Warren, Corrie Warren (Michael) Sensing, Camerina (Mike) Marshall; grandchildren: Faith Davis, Giovanni Rivers, Nasir Kazeem, Teairra Fields, Tucker Sensing, Graham Sensing, Cooper Marshall, Gavin Marshall, Mila Marshall; great grandchildren: Zyierre Fields and Zayden Fields.

Visitation with the family will be held Wednesday, March 3, 10:00 – 10:30 AM at West Huntsville Baptist Church.  Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 AM at West Huntsville Baptist Church.
