Funeral service for Leonard Elvis Prater, age 87, of Decatur, will be Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2017 at 2 p.m. at Shelton Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Cecil Berry officiating and Shelton Funeral Home directing. Burial to follow in New Friendship Cemetery at Somerville, Alabama. The family will receive friends today, Aug. 7, 2017 from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Prater, who died Saturday, Aug. 5, 2017, at Riverside Assisted Living was born to John Elvis Prater and Ethel Robinson Prater in Plevna, Alabama. Mr. Prater was retired from USDA as a food inspector and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Ronnie Prater; two brothers; and three sisters.
He is survived by his wife, Gladys Moses Prater, of Decatur; one daughter, Connie Prater, of Decatur; one grandson, Douglas Prater (Ashley), of Decatur; one brother, Jimmy Prater; and two sisters, Mavolane Bowen and Imogene Bailey.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
