Funeral Services for Mr. Leonard “Buck” Shirey, age 79 of Chandler Springs, will be held on Friday, September 23, 2022 at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Brian Camp officiating. Burial will follow at the Fairview Poplar Springs Cemetery.

Mr. Shirey passed away on Tuesday, September 20, 2022 at his residence. He was born in Pyriton and had lived in Clay and Talladega County for most of his life. He was a wood producer and pulpwooder, who enjoyed hunting and fishing and spending time outdoors and also an Alabama fan.

He is survived by his daughter, Debbie Hallman (Tommy) of Coleta Valley; his four sons, Robert Shirey (Camron) of Coleta Valley, Ricky Shirey (Rita) of Chandler Springs, Roger Shirey (Trisha) of Ashland, and Alvin Shirey (Shelly) of Chandler Springs; 10 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, 2 sisters, Kathleen Burkhalter (Melvin) of Ashland, Debra Evans of Coleta Valley; and a best friend for over 50 years, Billy Wayne Harvell.

Mr. Shirey was preceded in death by his parents, James Leonard Shirey and Grace Adell Hendon Shirey, his wife, Sara Lou Shirey, a sister, Ruth Smith, and 3 brothers, Troy Shirey, George Shirey, Sr., and Jack Shirey.

Active Pallbearers will be Nicholas Shirey, Alex Shirey, Noah Dover, Conway Shirey, Justin Burnette, Josh Thornton, and Michael Walters.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Brody Dover, Tom Dover, and Billy Wayne Harvell.

Mr. Shirey’s visitation will take place on Thursday, September 22, 2022 from 5:30 – 8:00 P.M. at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland and until service time on Friday.
