Leon Blankenship – Obituary

Funeral service for Leon Blankenship, 87, of Hartselle, will be today, May 7, 2017 at 3 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with Reverend Harold Thompson and Reverend David Teal officiating. Burial will be at Forrest Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be today from 2 to 3 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Blankenship died May 5, 2017 at his residence. He was born Sept. 20, 1929 in Lawrence County to Ausie and Susie Jarrett Blankenship. Mr. Blankenship retired from Beltline Electric Motors. Mr. Blankenship was a U.S. Army veteran where he served in the Korean War. He was a member of Forrest Chapel United Methodist Church for many years. Mr. Blankenship was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Willard Blankenship and Hillard Blankenship; and two sisters, Lorene Colburn and Jean Potter.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Jackie Vest Blankenship; one son, Jerry Blankenship; one daughter, Donna Cunningham (Randy); one brother, Dan Blankenship (Brenda); two sisters, Beatrice Potter (Edison) and Faye Carey (Raymond); one grandchild, Andrew Cunningham; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be nephews and friends.

Honorary pallbearers will be the Fellowship Class at Forrest Chapel United Methodist Church.

The family would like to say a special “Thank You” to Mr. Blankenship’s numerous caregivers for their kind and compassionate care.
