Leni Horn, 97, passed away Saturday in her home. She was born in Laupheim, Germany to Franz and Josefine (Muller) Betzler. Her family owned and operated the village nursery. Leni lived there until 1951 when she immigrated to the United States to join her new husband, Helmut Horn. She lived in her adopted country for 67 years, 60 of those in the home in Huntsville that she and her husband built. Out of this lifelong marriage, they had three children, Irene, Evi and Doris. Together they provided their children with the security, love and knowledge that there were no limits to what they could achieve. Her elegance and tenacity were a part of her to the end.
Leni loved learning new things about the world and sharing stories about her life adventures of which she had many. In her later years, she could often be found entertaining her grandchildren and great-grandchildren with stories.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Helmut; her parents; her brothers, Anton and Franzel; and sister, Marta. Survivors include her children, Irene (Mike) Wisner, Evi (Steve Warren) Horn, and Doris (Mike) Donovan; ten grandchildren, Marie, Leslie, Ellen, Kelly, Michael, Lauren, Christine, Mikey, Lena, and Kathleen; and seven and a half great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14th, at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Steven Warren officiating. There will be a private family burial.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Huntsville Public Library, PO Box 443, Huntsville, AL 35804 or a charity of your choice.
