LEIGHTON-The Town of Leighton and the Leighton Colbert Cooperative Improvement District
are hosting a community cleanup day at the Old Leighton Training and Leighton Middle School on Saturday
September 20, 2025, from 8:00 am until 12:00 noon. Volunteers are invited to join in to help clean up the
Leighton Training School/Leighton Middle School outside area. The public is encouraged to help with weed
eating, picking up debris and general cleaning up.
Mayor Silcox of Leighton and Chairman Renita Jimmar-Hall of the Leighton Colbert Cooperative
Improvement District, along with board members, Commissioner Tori Bailey, Commissioner Darol Bendall,
council member Gladys Canty, Joseph Hogan and Linda Vaughn, request assistance with improvements at
this historical location and with keeping the Legacy alive. Jimmar-Hall said that they are excited to host this
cleanup day and encourage residents to come out and make a positive impact on our community.

What to Bring: Comfortable shoes, gloves, water bottles, weed eater, lawn equipment, weed killer, and any
items for helping rid the premises of weeds and overgrown grass. We are also looking for individuals who
can bring your expertise in framing windows and doing wall prep.
What to Expect: Free Hot dogs, water, snacks, music and a fun community day.
Volunteers can simply show up at the designated location on the day of the event to preserve the wonderful
