obituary image Leida Joyce Powers Young, age 89 of Winchester, passed away on Tuesday, December 19, 2023, at her residence surrounded by her loving family. A native of Franklin County, she was born in Decherd on May 13, 1934, to the late Claude and Icalene (Warren) Powers. Before her retirement, she was employed as a secretary for forty years at Garner, Little, and Crenshaw. An avid sports fan, Joyce enjoyed cheering for University of Tennessee Volunteers Football, Lady Vols Basketball, and the Atlanta Braves. But she most enjoyed attending her grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s sporting events. She could also be found shopping with her sisters, going on treasure hunts for glassware, or traveling with her family to the Smoky Mountains. Joyce was a wonderful cook, and cherished the time spent entertaining her beloved family. She was a devoted member of Decherd United Methodist Church, where she served as Sunday School Superintendent. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Burns Young Jr; sisters, Mildred Wright, Claudia Kilgore, Jeanette Steele, and Joan Priest. Joyce is survived by her loving children, Steve (Kim) Young, and Greg (Cindy) Young; grandchildren, Stacy (Andy) Carter, Ryan Young, and Gage Young; great-grandchildren, Aahna Carter, Sydney Carter, Presley Carter, Lily Carter, Gavin Young, and sisters, Linda Rose and Louise Duncan; several nieces and nephews; and special friends and caregivers, Gina and James Brewer. Visitation will be from 12-2 pm on Friday, December 22, 2023, at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. Funeral Services will follow at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Moore-Cortner Funeral Home.
