LIMESTONE COUNTY – After awarding $15,000 in 2022, the Limestone County Economic Development Association and Athens-Limestone County Chamber of Commerce are now accepting applications for 2023 scholarships.
The scholarships are awarded to Limestone County residents who are pursuing a degree in advanced manufacturing, construction, healthcare, or information technology. The online application can be found here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/
Funds for this scholarship are raised through LCEDA’s annual golf tournament at Canebrake Club and a Night Out at Toyota Field hosted by the Chamber and LCEDA.
Limestone County Economic Development Association President & CEO Bethany Shockney explains how this addresses the workforce development needs in our community.
“These funds allow companies to give back into their future workforce by providing scholarships to local high school seniors as well as those who are going back for additional education,” Shockney said. “It is so rewarding to see people achieve their goals and receive good paying jobs right here in Limestone County.”
Athens-Limestone County Chamber of Commerce President Pammie Jimmar states this fits right into one of the Chamber’s mission of workforce and education.
“Along with our job shadowing and partners in education programs, being able to help students financially receive their degree is so important to help retain employees here in Athens and Limestone County,” Jimmar said.
