Layton Wilbur Thorne – Obituary

Layton Wilbur Thorne, 89, went to be with the Lord Monday May 2, 2016. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Ethel Thorne, two brothers and five sisters.
He is survived by his wife, Sybil; brother, Lester; and daughter, Betty and her husband, Jerry Horn; son, George and his wife, Ann. He has four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Layton was a World War II veteran who served under General George Patton during the invasion of north Germany. He was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution and was a retired employee of Ford Motor Company. He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church, Tuscumbia where he served as a Sunday school teacher and Deacon.
His graveside service will be Thursday, 1 p.m. at Colbert Memorial Gardens with Layton’s grandson, Pastor J. D. Thorne officiating. Visitation will follow the service.
Members of Layton’s Sunday school class will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Tuscumbia mission fund or building fund.
Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia is directing.
