Lawrence lived a life defined by service, dedication, love for family, and an unwavering commitment to his country. He proudly served in the United States military for 30 years, retiring with the distinguished rank of Sergeant Major. During his exemplary military career, he served honorably in Desert Storm and was awarded numerous commendations, including the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star Medal, and the Meritorious Service Medal. Following his military retirement, Lawrence continued serving his nation as a civil service employee for an additional 15 years, bringing his total service to an extraordinary 45 years.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Lawrence was a man who truly enjoyed life. He found great joy in fishing, admiring classic cars, and spending time at the bowling alley. He loved gathering family and friends around a table filled with delicious food, laughter, and conversation. Cooking was one of his greatest passions, and he delighted in sharing his culinary creations with friends, neighbors, and loved ones. In his own mind, there was no doubt that he was the best cook around—and those fortunate enough to enjoy his meals often agreed. He also embraced the art of winemaking, taking pride in crafting and sharing his homemade wines.

Lawrence will be remembered for his warm smile, generous spirit, quick wit, and the way he made everyone feel welcome in his home. His love for family was evident in all that he did, and the memories he created with those he loved will be treasured forever.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Pokui Nelson; his daughter, Shinette Nelson; his son, Lawrence Nelson Jr. (Carrie); his daughter, Deana Orlandini (Joseph) his cherished grandchildren, Nico Orlandini, Julian Orlandini, Uriah Nelson, and Avery Nelson; and his brother, Presley Nelson Sr (Sandra), sister Sandra Nelson Campbell (Anthony) and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
