COURTLAND-February 12, 2025 6:30pm the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office Swift Water Rescue Team, Courtland and Hatton Volunteer Fire Departments were dispatched to a vehicle being swept off the County Road 593 (south of Courtland) by floodwaters, leaving the driver stranded.
Upon arrival, first responders found the vehicle in a ditch, submerged in approximately 4–5 feet of swift-moving water with the driver standing on the windshield. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, a trained swift water rescue technician from our team, assisted by fire personnel, entered the water and made their way to the stranded driver.
With the combined efforts of all responders, the driver was safely extracted from the vehicle and brought to safety. Due to the frigid water temperatures, both the driver and our rescue technician were evaluated by medics from Courtland Fire.
