LaVerta Moore McGlathery, 84 passed on December 4, 2024, at home surrounded by her family. LaVerta was born March 30, 1940, the daughter of Willie B. and Aletta Moore. She was the oldest girl of nine siblings.
She confessed her faith in Christ at 13 years of age and was baptized at Beaver Dam Primitive Baptist Church. Mrs. McGlathery later moved her membership to Indian Creek Primitive Baptist Church where she served faithfully for over 50 years as a Sunday School teacher, Chairperson of the Trustee Board and member of the Adult and Senior Choirs.
LaVerta matriculated at Council Training High, Alabama A&M University, and received her Bachelor’s of Arts in Business Administration from Athens State University.
A faithful civil servant for over 30 years, LaVerta was a Training Specialist at Marshall Space Flight Center where she facilitated some of the first diversity trainings during the Reagan Administration.
On January 28, 1962, LaVerta wed Dave McGlathery. From that union were born Marcellus, Chauncey, and Kimberly.
LaVerta is survived by her three children; son-in-law, Artis; daughter-in-law, Nicole; grandchildren: Ashley, Hunter, and Hendrix; brothers: Willie B., Jr. and Thomas; sisters: Florence and Mary; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and dear friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband Dave, brothers: Earl, Richard and Winfred, and sister, Brenda.
Funeral service will be 12:00 noon, Saturday, December 14, 2024 at the Indian Creek Primitive Baptist Church (380 Indian Creek Road, Huntsville, AL 35806) with Elder Timothy M. Rainey officiating. Interment will be in the Pine Grove Cemetery. Mrs. McGlathery will lie in repose one hour prior to funeral time.
Public viewing will be held from 12:30 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., Friday, December 13, 2024 and 8:30 a.m. until 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 14, 2024 at the Royal Funeral Home.
