Mrs. Laverne Brooks, age 87, of Arab, passed away on Tuesday, July 2, 2019 at Marshall Medical Center North.
Mrs. Brooks was born on January 16, 1932 to Claude Hamby & Chloe Phillips Hamby. Mrs. Brooks was a devoted member of Eddy Missionary Baptist Church where she had attended for 60+ years. She was married to the late Mr. Billy K. Brooks who passed in 2016. She loved singing gospel music, studying the Bible and her church family. She enjoyed watching the birds in her pastime.
She was the oldest living member of Eddy Missionary Baptist Church.
Mrs. Brooks is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy D. Smith & Wendell, Gail Smith & Jerry; grandchildren, Lori Kelso & Justin, Jason Smith, Nathan Smith; great grandchild, Raegan Kelso; sister, Wilmalene Banister. Preceded in death by her parents, Claude Hamby & Chloe Phillips Hamby; husband, Billy K. Brooks.
Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 6, 2019 at Eddy Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Jacob Moody & Jason Smith, officiating. Burial will be in Eddy Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery with Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel, directing. Mrs. Brooks will lie-in-state at the church one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
Visitation will be 6:00 p.m. – 8:00p.m. Friday, July 5, 2019 at Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel.
