Laverna Garrett Monahan, 48 of West Palm Beach, Florida and Chicago passed away Monday, October 1, 2012. Laverna was born in Florence, Ala., on Feb. 1, 1964. She married Daniel Monahan on Feb. 22, 2006 in Boynton Beach, Fla. A graduate of Central High School in Florence, Ala., She obtained a Bachelor’s of Arts and Science degree from Freed-Hardeman University in Social and Behavioral Science with a minor in Bible and completed a Master’s in social work from Barry University in Miami, FL. She attained license as a clinical social worker in 1994. Laverna was a committed Christian who shared her faith with everyone. Loving, nurturing and spending time with her family was her passion. Taking care of others without a reason came natural, a true talent from God. She loved traveling with her husband, taking her parents on road trips and loved being hostess to anyone who could visit.
Survivors include, Husband Dan; Parents Leon and Mary Garrett; Sons, Kensley Monahan and wife, Kayla, Kevin Monahan and wife Meghan; Daughter, Krissy Renae and husband Steve;
Brother, Thomas Garrrett and wife Pennie; Sister, Brenda Garrett Waller and husband Don; Six Grandchildren;
Three Special Nieces and one nephew she considered her own.
Many family members and friends that were considered sisters, brothers, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 6, 1:00-3:00 P.M. at Florence Blvd. Church of Christ, Florence, Ala. The funeral service will follow at 3:00 P.M. Interment will be at Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens.
