Laurie Cox Sloan, of Florence, passed away Saturday, October 20, 2012 in her home. She was 56.
Laurie grew up in Florence and was a 1974 graduate of Bradshaw High School. Her desire to serve others, care for, and help others took her to ECM Hospital where she worked from 1991 to 2002. In 1997, she earned an Associates Degree in Nursing at Shoals Community College and became a Registered Nurse; most recently working in home health care. She had a great love for horses and other animals.
The love she had for her parents, Maurice and Joyce Cox, allowed her to take leaves of absence from work to provide special care for them during their illnesses. She was preceded in death by her mother, Joyce.
Her daughter Lauren was the love of her life. Lauren was so inspired by her mother, she ended up entering the health science field as well.
The visitation for family and friends will be at Elkins Funeral Home, Wednesday
Beginning at 1:00 p.m. The chapel service will follow at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Sam Hardie III officiating. Burial will follow in Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens.
She is survived by her daughter Lauren of New Orleans, Louisiana; father Maurice F. Cox of Florence; sister Lynn Cox of College Grove, Tennessee.
Pallbearers will be Mason Lee, Daylen Murphy, Billy Strickland, Matt Byrd, Jerry Rohling and Robert Bates.
