Laurel Bowen Casey Laurel Bowen Casey (74) of Guntersville, Alabama passed away peacefully on March 10, 2021 with her children by her side. Laurel was a caring mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Born on March 30, 1946 to the late Leamon Arlis Bowen and Anna Mae Spurlin Bowen of Horton, Alabama, Laurel was the youngest of nine children.

Laurel graduated from high school and went on to a successful career as a medical transcriptionist in Marshall County, Alabama. She truly enjoyed her work and was known as one of the best in her field. She was a fiercely dedicated mom to her children Paula Skinner (Ron) of Guntersville, and Bobby Cowen, Jr. of Marietta, GA, being a single mother, raising both on her own. Family came first and was above all else to Laurel, a value she instilled in her children and grandchildren. She especially treasured the times when her brothers and sisters and their families would get together monthly to eat good food and share cherished memories.

In addition to her parents, Laurel is preceded in death by seven of her brothers and sisters, Mozelle Bowen, Robert Bowen, Anna Ruth Headman, W.A. Bowen, J.W. Bowen, Erbon Bowen and Delano Bowen. She is survived by her children as well as grandchildren, Hannah Grace Skinner, Jonah Leamon Skinner, and Levi Collins Cowen, and two great-grandchildren, Spencer Skinner and Hattie Armstrong. She had one remaining sister, Mrs. Dean Nichols of Dunwoody, Georgia.
