Laura LaVerne Harwood Cain – Obituary

Laura LaVerne Harwood Cain, 95, went peacefully into the arms of Jesus March 21, 2018. She was born in Chickasaw County to the late Jesse Oscar and Mae Dalton Harwood. She met Travis Cain while they were at Wood Junior College. They were later married and raised their family in the Valley Community. She was blessed with a loving family to whom she was very devoted.

LaVerne was a lady of many talents and her life was a testimony to her faith in her Lord Jesus Christ. She was a faithful member of Old Union Baptist Church where she was pianist for sixty-seven years and taught Sunday School until she was ninety-three, retiring because of poor eyesight. She performed various duties throughout the years faithfully in her church.

She was a devoted wife and helpmate to her husband for fifty-nine years, farming and raising laying hens for the egg market. LaVerne was a gracious hostess and always opened her home to family and friends for delicious meals and fellowship.

Services will be Saturday, March 24, 11 a.m. at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Belmont, MS with Bro. Jerry Ginn officiating. Burial will be in Old Union Baptist Church Cemetery. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, MS will be in charge of arrangements.

Surviving are her children – Rebecca Walker (Earl) of Iuka, MS, Stephen Cain (Barbara), Ruth Ginn and Phillip Cain (Jennifer), all of Belmont, MS and her nine adoring grandchildren – Matthew Walker (Melissa) of Iuka, MS, Anthony Cain Walker (Amy) of Guntown, MS, Brantly Cain (Stephanie) of Pelham, AL, Ginger Tompkins (Mike) of Belgreen, AL, Kresta Cain of Caledonia, MS, Jeremy Thorne (Tina) of Pontotoc, MS, Julie Diaz (Oscar) of Manvel, TX, Anna Sparks (Brandon) of Belmont, MS and Ashley Higginbottom (Chris) of Golden, MS. She cherished eighteen great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren with one on the way. She leaves her sisters-in-law – Vaudie Mae Mitchell of Tuscumbia, AL and Barbara Cain of Phil Campbell, AL and brother-in-law – Lex Cain and Ruby of Thrasher, MS.

Pallbearers will be Matthew Walker, Anthony Walker, Tyler Walker, Brantly Cain, Jeremy Thorne and Chris Higginbottom.

Visitation will be Friday, March 23, 5-8 p.m. at Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, MS.
