Laura Houston Connaughton, 92, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 5th. Born in 1926 in Town Creek, Alabama, Laura graduated from Talladega High School and attended for two years Auburn University. After Auburn, she worked in Mobile, Alabama, until she met the late Joseph Walton Connaughton in the choir of Dauphin Way Methodist Church. They were married and remained so until Joe’s death last May 9, one day after their 64th wedding anniversary. In 1958, Laura and Joe moved to Huntsville and joined the Trinity United Methodist Church, where they remained active for 60 years. Laura lived a life of devotion to family, church, community and God – and now is her reward.
She is survived by daughters, Julie Blum (John) and Martha White; son, Jeff Connaughton; grandchildren, Jaime Hedden (Adam), Laura Blum and Robert Blum; great-grandchildren, Scott, Jonah and Jalynn Hedden; niece, Nancy Estes (Tom); and nephew, Roger Yerkes.
Visitation will be from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 8th, at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. The funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 9th, at Trinity United Methodist Church.
