Lauderdale County Deputy Randall McCrary

Authorities have identified the deputy involved in the shooting on Wednesday evening as Deputy Randall McCrary.

FLORENCE-A Lauderdale County Deputy was shot this evening, Wednesday, February 3 while trying to serve commitment papers on a resident at a home  on Ridge Avenue, off Northwest Jackson Road in Florence.

According to Lauderdale County Sheriff Rick Singleton the deputy was shot, he returned fire hitting the suspect both were injured.   The deputy was airlifted to Huntsville Hospital and the sheriff said it is believed the shooter was airlifted to Vanderbilt in Nashville, Tennessee.

The shooting is under investigation and the State Bureau of Investigation is handling this case.

At this writing the severity of the injuries to the deputy and the shooter are not known.

So we placed an armed shooter in a meds flight to Vanderbilt? Where he can refuse to return to Alabama. Giving him the newest in medical treatment. Enough! Our Deputies deserve the best if that’s Vanderbilt so be it.
