Lauderdale County Deputies Involved In Pursuit Which Ends In Death Of Suspect; SBI Leading Investigation

LAUDERDALE COUNTY-On Thursday, February 26 at approximately 12:20 PM two Lauderdale County Deputies were in the area of County Road 656 in the Anderson Community.

They were investigating a report of a male with active warrants for his arrest and a stolen vehicle.  The deputies located the male in a  vehicle that fled from the scene and while doing so attempted to strike the deputies with the vehicle.  The deputies did fire shots at this time.

A vehicle pursuit ensued in which the suspect fled north on Highway 207.  The suspect wrecked the vehicle during the pursuit and fled on foot.

Deputies pursued him on foot and the suspect jumped into a large pond.  Deputies were unable to apprehend the male from the pond.

With the help of the Anderson Volunteer Fire Department deputies were able to recover the body of the suspect from the pond.

The suspect is deceased.  The State Bureau of Investigation was notified and will be conducting the investigation.
