Larry Wilford McNeil age 84, passed away September 17, 2026, at Jackson Madison County General Hospital.
He was born November 12, 1941, in Finger, TN and grew up and attended school at Hickory Corner. He was the son of the late L.O. and Pauline Davidson McNeil.
Larry began working at a young age, first on the farm, then for Brown Shoe Factory in Selmer for 14 years before he began working as a welder for General Electric in Selmer, where he worked an additional thirty-five years. He was also a lifetime farmer.
He married Glenda Smith in 1960, and they had two children together. He later married Pauline Oliver in 1983. They shared forty years of marriage together until her passing on October 7, 2023.
Larry was a member of Little Hatchie Primitive Baptist Church, and he read his Bible continually and knew it well.
He loved earthly things passionately, fishing and farming. He was also a very comical person.
Mr. McNeil is survived by a son Tony McNeil (Connie) of Finger; stepdaughters Paula Ivy (Bobby) and Pam Carle (Pau) both of Medon, TN; seven grandchildren, Sarah Grace McCaskill (Jordan), Andrew McNeil, Kristn Sells McDaniel (Michael), Nicholas Sells, John Ivy (Teppie), Josh Carle (Amanda) and Jason Carle (Felicia); fourteen great grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister Jo Ellen Garner of Finger and a son-in-law Jeff Sells of Mifflin, TN.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Pauline Oliver McNeil, a daughter Rena Paulette Sells (2022) and a brother, Hugh Allen McNeil.
Funeral Services will be 2:00 PM Sunday, September 20, 2026, at Shackelford Funeral Directors Crook Avenue Chapel with Brad Garner officiating. Burial will follow at Cave Springs Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Crook Avenue Chapel from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM service time on Sunday.
