Mr. Larry Thomas Huffstutler Larry Thomas Huffstutler, aged 79, passed away Friday morning, March 22, 2024 at his home in Albertville with his wife by his side. Mr. Huffstutler was preceded in death by his parents, Ersie A. Huffstutler and Evelyn Alene Jackson, sisters Yvonne Banes and Kathy Jones, and brother Odis Huffstutler. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Huffstutler (Gilliland), daughter of the late Byron Gilliland and Ruth Beddingfield, his daughters, Karen Nichols (Barry) of West Frankfort, Illinois and Kelley Belmont (George) of Vestavia Hills, granddaughters Elizabeth Durbin (Seth) and Grey Belmont, and grandson Thomas Clay Nichols, siblings Marie Earwood (Gene), Norman Huffstutler (Tonya) and Randal Huffstutler, and brothers-in-law Bud Jones and Phillip Gilliland (Liz) and sister-in-law Sharon Huffstutler.
A native of Altoona, Alabama, Larry graduated from Susan Moore High School in 1963 and settled in Albertville following his marriage to Phyllis in 1970. Following his retirement from Noranda (Revere) in 1997, Larry worked as a bus driver for the Albertville City School System. Until 2022, Larry served as administrator of The Strongarm Community Foodbank, which he helped establish and develop from a Sunday School closet to an independently housed nonprofit organization devoted to reducing food insufficiencies throughout North Alabama through the unified efforts of Northeast Alabama churches. A committed follower of Jesus Christ, Larry was a member of Church of the Highlands, Gadsden Campus where he and Phyllis served on the dream team.
Services will be held at the Adams Brown Funeral Home in Albertville on Monday, March 25, 2024. Visitation will begin Monday at 12:30 with the funeral to follow at 2:30. Services will be conducted by
Jimmy Umphrey and Phillip Gilliland. The pallbearers will be beloved nephews Joey Gilliland, Jason Gilliland, John Gilliland, Jacob Gilliland, Jason Jones, and Jerry Huffstutler. In Lieu of Flowers, donations may be made to The Strongarm Community Foodbank or Shepherd’s Cove, both of Albertville, Alabama.
