Funeral service for SFC. Larry James Herring (retired), 68, will be Monday, December 17, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Donnell Brown and at the graveside; Bishop Bobby Morgan officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial will be in Youngs Chapel Cemetery in Piedmont, Alabama. Visitation will be Sunday, December 16, 2018 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Peck Funeral Home.
Larry James Herring SFC (retired) enlisted in the United States Air Force on May 28th, 1970 after graduating from Colberts Heights High School. He was discharged in April of 1974. He was stationed at K.I. Sawyer AFB, Michigan and RAF Upper Heyford AFB, in England. He enlisted in the MS Air National Guard in 1977 at Meridian MS and was discharged in 1978. He enlisted in the MS Army National Guard at Meridian, MS in February 1979 and retired September 1999. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Viet Nam Conflict and in the MS Army National Guard during Desert Storm. He retired at the rank of Sergeant First Class (E-7) at Ft Rucker, AL with a total of 27 years in military service.
He preceded in death by his father: Ocel F. Herring and a sister: Anita D. Herring.
He was born, July 21, 1950, in Etowah County, AL to Ocel and Josephine Herring. Mr. Herring died on Thursday, December 13, 2018 at his residence.
He leaves behind his Wife: Rhonda South Herring, a brother: Eddie L. Herring, two Sisters: Brenda C. Herring and Julie K. Crosslin, four Children: Stacy N. Herring Boutwell (Bo), Lance A. Herring (Jen), Christina J. Herring Lundeen (John) and Gerritt Keaton and eight Grandchildren: Emily N. Scott, Austin T. Scott, Alex M. Scott, and Hayden Parker Herring, Avrie D. Herring, Anna Catherine Lundeen, Lily E (Little Bit) Lundeen, Caroline G. (June Bug) Lundeen and four Great Grandchildren. He was a member of Soul Harbor Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as Pastor for 5 years. He was licensed in 2012 and Ordained in 2013 into the Gospel Ministry.
