Larry was born February 6, 1938, in Gattman, Lamar County, AL, to the late Dudley and Ruth Clark Otts. He graduated from Sulligent High School in 1956, where he was a standout football player. He was an avid coon hunter and raised in a hardworking, farming family that instilled in him a deep love of the outdoors and sharing time together. After graduation, he moved to Birmingham and, following time in the U.S. Army National Guard, became a dedicated Birmingham Firefighter, retiring after 33 years of service. He also worked part-time repairing small engines, tractors, and lawn and garden equipment.
In his retirement, Larry enjoyed raising, training and showing Tennessee Walking Horses. His other hobbies included gardening, raising hunting dogs, bird hunting, trail riding, camping, traveling and especially spending time with family on the family farm. His love of reading was life-long, spanning from his youth until his passing. He was also dedicated to his Primitive Baptist faith, and served as a deacon for his church.
Larry’s quiet ways, impressive intellect and dry sense of humor will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
