Larry Elmond Taylor, 77, of Athens, passed away on Thursday, January 29th, 2026, at Athens Health and Rehab. Mr. Taylor was born on December 10th, 1948, in Kentucky to Eskel and Elizabeth Kiser Taylor.
Mr. Taylor is survived by his wife, Barbara Taylor; son, Thomas Taylor (Shasta); daughters, D’Anne Griffin (Joseph) and Tammy Goodwin; 4 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers; 1 sister, 1 son-in-law and 1 grandchild.
He was the last of his siblings.
He enjoyed working on clocks, small engines, antiques, and truly loved gardening. Those maters, if you knew him, were lucky to enjoy them.
Fun fact, he worked at NASA on the moon rover! Also, a short time at Lionel Trains.
He was brilliant at his tool and die making work at Matthew’s for most of his life.
Another fun fact, He was a buck sergeant during Vietnam.
Neat right, thought I would share that.
One more fun fact, he was third cousin to June Carter Cash.
Also, he would tell tales about being born with white hair and had it most of his childhood.
Also, he could play any instrument and was extremely brilliant at that. In his younger days, he enjoyed a pickin’ and a grinnin’.
He was proud to be from Harlan, Kentucky. Believe it or not there is a song about it.
It’s by Patty Loveless. “You’ll Never Leave Harlen Alive”.
