Larry David Mathis of Waynesboro, TN was born May 23, 1950 in Memphis, TN, the son of the late Floyd and Beulah Marie Skelton Mathis. He was united in marriage to the former Carolyn Sue Morris on June 30, 1973.
Mr. Mathis was well known for his work as an auctioneer and a Christian.
He departed this life on Tuesday, April 5, 2022 at his home at the age of 71 years, 10 months and 13 days.
Mr. Mathis is survived by his wife, Carolyn Sue Morris Mathis; a daughter, Amanda (Mandy) Mathis Buie and husband, Jonathan and a son, Christopher David Mathis and wife, Maria all of Waynesboro, TN; grandchildren, Zachary Martin and wife, Sarah, Rayanna Caroline Buie and Weston David Buie; great-grandchildren, Jase Lee Martin, Tyson Kade Martin and Naiomi Grace Martin; brothers Jeff Mathis and wife, Tammy of Pulaski, TN; brothers-in-law, Tony Morris and Joel Gobbell and nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Mathis was preceded in death by a sister, Brenda Gobbell.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, April 7, 2022 at Memorial Gardens of Wayne County in Waynesboro, Tennessee with Robert Gobbell officiating and children, Amanda and David participating in the service. Burial will follow with Shackelford Funeral Directors of Wayne County assisting the family.
His family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be given to the Butterfly Foundation or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
