Obituary of Lanny Rodger Shabel   Lanny “Rodger” Shabel, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and community leader, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2025, at the age of 73.

Rodger was born on April 16, 1951, in McGee, Mississippi, to Jim and Gussie Shabel. As the eldest of seven children, he learned the values of hard work, leadership, and family devotion early in life.

On February 14, 1973, Rodger married the love of his life, Vickie Shabel. Together, they raised four children: twin sons Leh (Allyson) and Todd, daughter Casey Davidson (Brian), and youngest son Kyle. Rodger was a proud and devoted father.

Rodger made a lasting impact in the business community as the owner of Pepsi Cola Decatur. His leadership extended beyond the business as he was dedicated to supporting and uplifting the communities his business served. His generosity and unwavering commitment left a lasting mark on countless lives.

Outside of his professional achievements, Rodger was an avid coon hunter and golfer. His hobby, however, came from spending time with his friends. He especially enjoyed lunch gatherings with his lifelong buddies, Elvis Larkin and William Fred Pepper.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Vickie Shabel; his children Leh (Allyson), Todd, Casey Davidson (Brian), and Kyle; his grandchildren Megan Jane, Demi Dianne, and Evi Elizabeth; and his siblings Debbie Shabel, Terry Shabel, Scotty Shabel, and Jason Shabel. He is also survived by a host of extended family and dear friends who will miss him deeply.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Gussie Shabel, and his brothers, Tommy and Kevin Shabel.

A celebration of Rodger’s life will be at Moss Funeral Home in Cullman on Wednesday, March 12. The viewing will be at 1 PM; funeral at 3 PM; graveside at 4:30 PM.
