Lane Garrett Smith, age 23, of Fayetteville, TN, passed away on May 11, 2025. Born on July 24, 2001, in Huntsville, AL, Lane was the son of Kris Smith and Kelly Johnson Smith. A 2020 graduate of Lincoln County High School, he worked as a machine operator with Lincoln Paving.

Lane was truly one of a kind—a jack of all trades with a heart as big as his skillset. He was the best son, grandson, brother, husband, stepdad, and, ultimately, the proudest and most devoted dad. To know Lane was to love him. He never hesitated to lend a hand and was always ready to help however he could.

His greatest joys came from spending time with those he loved. Whether he was riding RZRs, boating and surfing, fixing anything with a motor, hunting for deals on Facebook Marketplace, or simply being with his family, Lane lived life to the fullest. His greatest goal was to make his family happy—and he did, in every way he could.

Lane’s legacy of love, loyalty, and generosity will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his parents, Lane is survived by his loving wife, Baleigh Whitson Smith; his cherished stepdaughter, Brynlee Pruitt; his sister, Daisy Smith; paternal grandparents, Jerry and Sandra Smith; maternal grandparents, Danny and Betty Johnson; as well as a host of extended family and dear friends.

To honor Lane’s life, services will be held at 12 PM on Friday, May 23, 2025, at Higgins Funeral Home with Chris Jones and Charles Gatlin officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hills Memorial Gardens. Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation on Thursday, May 22, from 4 PM to 8 PM, and again on Friday from 10 AM until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to benefit the Lane Smith Family at any branch of the Bank of Lincoln County, or to Ronald McDonald House Charities, 26345 Network Place, Chicago, IL 60673-1263.

Higgins Funeral Home is honored to care for the family of Lane Garrett Smith.
