Lakin Lovin Garnett – Obituary

Lakin Lovin Garnett, 82, of Decatur, died Monday, March 14, 2016. A celebration of his life will be today at 11 a.m. at Central Baptist Church. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. Dr. Rob Jackson and Rev. Mike Free are officiating.
Mr. Garnett is survived by his wife, Mildred Weaver Garnett; daughter, Julia Garnett; stepson, W. Lonnie Weaver (Sandra); sisters, Charlyne Baker (Gene) and Marie Poole (O.T.); stepgrandchildren, Wendye Eady (Brandon), Dawn Montgomery (Trai), Mike Weaver (Emily) and six stepgreat-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, James Arthur and Lottie Lovin Garnett; wife, Evelyn Sims Garnett; and stepson, Edward H. Weaver.
Mr. Garnett attended one year of college at Auburn University on a football scholarship. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, dancing, and singing, as a member of the Central Baptist Choir, where he was a member. He was First Sergeant for the Army National Guard, Exalted Ruler of the Elks, and member of AL State Defense Force. He was owner of Plowboy’s Antiques and Furniture in Sheffield. He was retired from the Army National Guard. He was also a Realtor, and Auctioneer with Weaver Realty and Auction Company. He was a member of the Morgan County Association of Realtors and served as a previous board member.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Central Baptist Church, or to the Veterans Association.
Roselawn Funeral Home is assisting the family.
