Lahoma Mae Woods Burdette, age 84, passed away on Saturday, February 15, 2025. Lahoma was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-five years, George Carlton (Carl) Burdette; parents, Lihu Waits Woods and Sally Wilma Boyd; and brother, Larry Waits Woods.

Lahoma leaves two sons, George Carlton (Buz) Burdette, Jr. (Lori), Forrest Wade Burdette (Holly); daughter, Allison Ann Heusel (David); grandchildren, Andrew Zackary Burdette (Margaret), Heather Mae Heusel Schmidt (Daniel), Harrison David Heusel, and Landon Cole Burdette.

Lahoma was selected by her high school class as Who’s Who Among American High School Students, “Most Likely to Succeed”. Upon graduating from high school as Salutatorian, Lahoma attended Alverson-Draughon Business College, Birmingham, Alabama, and after marrying Carl in 1959, she worked for the Auburn University School of Agriculture Department’s research laboratory analyzing and recording crop growth and yield information while Carl finished attending Auburn.

At the age of 11, Lahoma accepted Christ as her personal Savior at the Liberty Baptist Church, Ashland, Alabama, and has been active in church activities all her life at the Lineville Baptist Church, Lineville, Alabama, Southside Baptist Church and Hillwood Baptist, Huntsville, Alabama, Hebron Baptist Church and Ivy Creek Baptist, Dacula, Georgia. Growing up Lahoma excelled in participating in Bible Sword Drills and, while still in high school, she taught a children’s Sunbeam class to help children develop a foundation of Christian principles. Lahoma loved to interact with others and always looked for something good to say about everyone she met. Lahoma had an infectious smile and brightened any room she entered.

Lahoma enjoyed gardening, sewing, and genealogy. While living in Stone Mountain, Georgia, Lahoma documented her heritage and in 1982 and was accepted as a member of National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Baron DeKalb Chapter.

Funeral Services were held Wednesday, February 19, 2025, at Ivy Creek Baptist Church located in Buford, GA. Graveside Service followed at the Ivy Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. Her Sunday School Class, the Early Morning Believers, served as honorary escorts. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ivy Creek Church building fund or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
