Lacy Earl Smith Sr. – Obituary

Lacy Earl Smith Sr., 81, formerly of Decatur, passed away, Sept. 13, 2017.

He was born Dec. 1, 1935, in Shaw, Mississippi. He served in the Army as a member of the 82nd Airborne Division and graduated from Mississippi State University in 1960. His greatest pleasure was being surrounded by his family and close friends where there was always a story to be told and a laugh to be heard. He was dedicated to his family and always put them first.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Earnest Rupert “Buck” Smith and Odie Bell Yates Smith; and brothers, Ted L. Smith and Robert Talmadge Smith (Betty).

He is survived by his children, Lacy E. Smith Jr., Annette Smith Norris (Randy) and Anita Jo Smith Arnett (Jimmy). He had seven grandchildren, Joey B. Smith, Jessi A. Smith, Rhett Norris (Amber), Robin N. Perez (Joe), Cody Norris (Erika Vaiaoga fiancée), J. Anderson Norris and Heather F. Ralson. He also had eight great-grandchildren, Raven Norris, Julian Perez, Joseph Perez, Isabella Perez, Griffin Norris, Tydnn Norris, Brandon and Jackson Smith.

A special thanks to Riverside Inn’s staff, nurses and cooks for the care and love they provided for our father.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 30, at Westmeade Baptist Church, Decatur, at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity.
