Laberta Pennington, 86, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, August 17, 2023. She was a loving and caring mother. But her favorite name was Grandmother. Laberta graduated from Randolph High School and worked until retirement at Comfort Care (Richards Mfg). Laberta and Joe owned and operated Pennington’s Family Restaurant and store at Springville for several years. After retirement, Laberta enjoyed working the voting polls at Randolph. She was a talented seamstress and took pride in smocking dresses for little girls. Laberta enjoyed baking cakes and pies for all of her family and friends. She was a faithful member of Randolph Baptist Church until her death.
Survivors include her daughter, Deborah Munn(Marty) of Pontotoc and her son, Scotty Pennington(Christy) of Randolph; six granddaughters, Ginger Beghtol(Jason), Jennifer Munn, Maggie Patrick(Chuck), Lauren Holloway(Blake), AnnaLea Smith(Johnnie), and Leah Pennington; one grandson, Landon Pennington; seven great-grandchildren, Jack and John Beghtol, Isaac, Callie Anne, and Lilly Grace Patrick, Lyndi Holloway, and Lela Smith; two sisters, Martha Louise Tutor of Hernando and Lavonia Hadley of Pontotoc; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, H.L. and Gertrude Huey Gregory; her husband, Joe Pennington; brother, Harold Gregory; and her three sisters, Magdalene Tutor, Ruth Britt, and Laverne Brown.
Services will be Sunday, August 20, 2023, at 2PM at Tutor Memorial Funeral Home in Pontotoc with Bro. Gerald Finley and Bro. Bobby Cobb officiating. Visitation will be Saturday, August 19th 5-8PM and Sunday, August 20th 1PM until service time. Burial will follow in Oak Forest Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Rodney Newell, Greg Tutor, Danny Lucius, Joey Ward, Shane Ward, and Shannon Ward. Honorary Pallbearers will be her five grandsons, her three great-grandsons, Rick Baggett, Danny Pennington, Brad Ward, Joe Bryant and Tony Tutor.
