L C “Popa” Pounders – Obituary

L C “Popa” Pounders, 81, of Killen died Wednesday, August 20, 2014, at his residence from complications of Alzheimer’s  Disease.

Visitation will be Friday, August 22, 2014, from 12-2 PM at Center Star United Methodist Church.  Funeral services will follow at 2 PM, with Bro. Ian Butler officiating.  Burial will be at Greenview Memorial Park.  Elkins East Chapel is assisting the family.

Mr. Pounders was born November 6, 1932, in Tishomingo County Mississippi, he served in the US Navy and was a Seaman during the Korean Conflict.  He served on the USS DIPHDA, AKA 59.

Mr. Pounders was preceded in death by his loving wife of 33 years, Myrtis Hanback Pounders; parents, James Riley and Myrtle Pounders; two sisters, Jewell Hale and Maxine Sweetinburg; two brothers, Melvin and James Pounders; step-daughter, Mitzi Sanderson.

He is survived by his daughter, Gwen Pounders; step-son, Steven L. Bevis; two sisters, Juanita Woodruff and Heaster Enlow; grandchildren, Lovie Walden and husband Earl, Savanna Bevis, and Will Bevis; great-grandchildren, Kayle and Daniel; several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be family and friends

The family would like to thank Dr. Patricia Auxier and the staff of Gentiva Hospice for their care of LC during these past few months.  Also to his daily caregiver, Janet Kelsoe and all the extended family members who sat with him, we love and appreciate you so much.

In lieu of floral arrangements the family asks that you donate in memory of LC and Myrtis Pounders to Center Star United Methodist Church, 6293 Highway 72 Killen, Alabama 35645, or your favorite charity.  Your battle is over Popa…go rest high on that mountain.
