MUSCLE SHOALS – Northwest Shoals Community College (NWSCC) proudly announces K’Nesha Hudson as the first graduate to benefit from the West Florence Scholarship. Hudson graduated this spring with an Associate in Applied Science, majoring in Salon and Spa Management with a Cosmetology option.
“We are so proud of K’Nesha,” said Katie Smith, NWSCC Director of Advancement. “Her hard work, determination, and commitment to success are truly inspiring, and it’s an honor to have supported her journey through the West Florence Scholarship Fund.”
The West Florence Scholarship Fund was established and announced in November of 2021 through a generous $100,000 private donation to the Northwest Shoals Community College Foundation. The scholarship supports residents living in public and income-based housing in West Florence, helping remove financial barriers to higher education.

Hudson, a resident of Florence, credits the scholarship with helping her overcome financial barriers and stay focused on her goals.
“The West Florence Scholarship made it possible for me to follow my dream of becoming a cosmetologist,” said Hudson. “It lifted a huge burden off my shoulders and allowed me to fully commit to my education. I’m so grateful for the support and hope others in our community take advantage of this opportunity.”
The West Florence Scholarship is available to graduating high school seniors and adults seeking to further their education. Recipients may enroll as full- or part-time students, and the scholarship is renewable. The application will be available each November, on the College’s Foundation webpage.
