Three Kiwanians getting ready for Pancake Day, 2011.

THE SHOALS – It’s October and that must mean (in addition to the obvious holiday) Pancake Day at the First Baptist Church. The event is not called “Pancake Days“, because of a reason  for which we’re not aware, but nontheless is a tradition for The Sheffield Kiwanis Club.

Tickets are $5.00 at the door. they may also be purchased from any member prior to the event. So be sure to go by and get your fill. It is for a good cause.

Some of the organizations helped by Pancake Day are:

Sheffield High School Key Club – learning about service to the community
Safeplace Protecting women and children
Arc of the Shoals providing for challenged individuals
Big Brothers Big Sisters – provide mentoring for local children
Reading is Fundemental – free books 3 times a year to each student at the Sheffield- Tuscumbia
Headstart school with volunteers to read to the children from their books.

Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child one community
at a time. We support projects in Sheffield and in The Shoals.

Wayne Springer, event coordinator, had this to say about Pancake Day, ”

We have a great time as a club participating in all the phases of Pancake Day. It is a large amount of teamwork with a great satisfaction for each member. We welcome everyone to visit our meetings at 12:00 PM every Wednesday at Park Place II in downtown Sheffield, Alabama .”
