Kit Michelle Matkins, 51, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2026, at NMMC in Tupelo, MS, surrounded by the love of her family. Born June 18, 1974, in Tupelo to Billy and Jeanette Matkins, she grew up in Pontotoc, where she attended Pontotoc City Schools. Over the years, she worked at Hunter Sadler, Litton Frames, and Check Advance before dedicating herself to being a homemaker. Kit loved movies, books, and music, but most of all, she cherished time spent with her beloved grandchildren.
She is survived by her father, Billy Matkins; two brothers, Wade Matkins (Honey) and Eddie Herrington (Teresa); her children, Chanse Ruth (Maddy) and Jeralyn Matkins; her beloved grandchildren, Asher Ruth, Leighton Jones, Jensen Cornelius, Luna Ruth, Rayra Taylor, and Rowan Matkins; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Vera Jeanette Matkins, and her grandparents, George and Vera Bledsoe, as well as R.B. and Louise Matkins.
A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, January 24, 2026, at 2:30 p.m. at New Hope Baptist Church, 905 New Hope Road, Pontotoc, MS.
