Mrs. Kim Grace TrottKim Grace Burgess-Trott, daughter, sister, aunt, wife, Ma (grandmother), mother-in-law, friend, teacher, and workmate; these are titles that Kim proudly wore and was dedicated to each role. She touched so many lives with her bubbly personality, infectious smile, mischievous nature, quick wit, and a never-ending desire to help anyone in need whether family or friend.

Kim was born to Vernon Ghandi Burgess and Grace Nel-Marie Burgess on November 15, 1959, in Paget Bermuda. She was the ninth child who lovingly joined Shelton, Judith (Judy), Elizabeth (Libby), Robert (Bobby), Charles (Mosey), Jennifer (Jen), Clarke (Clarkie), and Debra (Debbie). She would go on to welcome five more siblings, Theresa (Resa), Baby Cynthia, Suzanne (Suzie), Rhonda, and Kelly. Kim is remembered as a beautiful toddler in looks and demeanor never making a fuss, with thick black trusses of hair like her dad’s. Libby remembers her being one of the ‘9’s crew’, Mama Grace was born in 1929, Libby was born in 1949 and Kim being born in 1959.

She, like her siblings, was an outdoor person spending lots of time beaching in Bermuda carrying all the young nieces and nephews with her; and her sisters racing in their cars at the delight of the young ones; although never exceeding Bermuda’s speed limit of 20 miles per hour. Judy remembers Kim and sister Debra walking to her house every day after school to visit with our very first nephew Calvin. Jen remembers Kim coming to stay with her in St. Davids on her summer breaks from school; returning the favor, Jen came to live with Kim, Gil, and family with niece Jenaya to pursue her further education. Resa can remember their mother, Grace, always sewing little matching outfits for her and Kim which they would happily wear to special outings. Resa always receiving a yellow outfit and Kim always the blue; which is probably why Kim’s favorite color has been blue ever since.

She loved being picked up by her dad together with siblings, Theresa, Rhonda, and Kelly after school or on weekends to drive around the island, or travel to St. Davids to visit Granny Alice.

Kim spent her early years growing up in the Cedar Hill and Hillview Estate, Warwick, neighborhoods. Kim’s first trip off the island was when she was around eleven years old, traveling along with Resa and Bobby, to visit her oldest brother Shelton and his wife Evonne, while he was attending school in Ottawa, Ontario Canada.

Like all her siblings, she attended Purvis Primary School, the neighborhood school. She then matriculated to The Berkely Institute (High School) and then furthered her education at Mount St. Vincent in Halifax, Canada, graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education in May 1983. Kim was intent on reaching all her academic goals; later graduating with two Master’s Degrees. The first was in Special Education and the second in Assessment Testing and Measurement in Education. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from Alabama A&M University in Huntsville, Alabama.

On her return to Bermuda in the early 80’s, Kim first taught at The Bermuda Institute and then moved on to teach in various Bermuda public schools including Victor Scott Primary, Harrington Sound Primary, and Purvis Primary.

Kim married her LONG-time sweetheart Gilbert Trott when she finished her first degree. They had been together for about nine years before marrying on June 17, 1983. They celebrated their Ruby Anniversary on June 17, 2023.

Kim and Gil were blessed with their first child Lawrenzo on May 28, 1985; and their second child, Kimille-Grace was welcomed to their family on September 1, 1994. In 1995, Kim and Gilbert decided to move their family to Huntsville, Alabama.

The funeral service for Mrs. Kim Grace Trott will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, April 25, 2024 at the Oakwood Seventh-day Adventist Church (5500 Adventist Drive, Huntsville, AL 35896) with Pastor James Doggette as eulogist.
