Funeral services for the Rev. Kermit Wilburn Owens, 86, will be today at 2 p.m. at Oak Grove FCM Church with the Rev. Tony Thorn and the Rev. Shane Williams officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service.
Mr. Owens, who died Sunday, October 13, 2013, at Decatur Morgan Hospital, was born June 15, 1927, in Lawrence County to James Edd and Bessie Viola Owens. He was an active member of Oak Grove First Congregational Methodist Church for 58 years, served in the United States Army, loved to work at church youth camp sonrise, and had retired from Goodyear. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Arnell Owens; son, Donald W. Owens; grandson, Trey Owens.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Owens; sons, Roger D. Owens, Mark O. Owens (Teresa), and Ronald L. Owens (Jacki); daughters, Belinda G. Henson (Ronald), Melissa A. Brewington (Eddie), and Tammy L. Moon (Cooter); daughter-in-law, Becky S. Owens; stepsons, Ricky Weaver and Mark Weaver; brothers, Clellie Owens and Jereld Owens; sisters, Marie Campbell; 18 grandchildren; 5 step-grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and 5 step-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be grandsons.
