Kenneth Martin Steelmon of Dora passed away at his residence on Sunday, July 30 at the age of 87. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Susan Steelmon, son Marty Steelmon of Dora, daughter Karen Bruner (Ricky) of Oakman, and stepson Paul Watts of Sumiton.

He is also survived by grandchildren Erica Woodley (Joseph) of Athens, Alyssa Evans (Daniel) of Jasper, Christopher Steelmon (Chloe) of Hartselle, Chad Steelmon (Surrayya) of Falkville, Connor Steelmon of Sumiton and Jeffrey Watts and Vincent Watts of Sumiton. In addition, he is survived by 8 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters.

Mr. Steelmon was born in Crossville, Tennessee on January 23, 1936 to Fred and Irene Martin Steelmon. He graduated from Oak Ridge High School (Tennessee) in 1955 and Lincoln Memorial University (Tennessee) in 1959 where he earned a B.S. degree in biology/science. After teaching and coaching multiple sports for several years, he then served as Director of Parks and Recreation for the City of Oak Ridge (Tennessee) from 1968 – 1977. Upon moving to Jasper, Alabama in 1977, he resumed teaching and coaching at Union Chapel School and Valley School until his retirement in 1998.

Mr. Steelmon was a member and trustee of Pumpkin Center Baptist Church until his death. A memorial service will be held at Pumpkin Center Baptist Church on Saturday, August 5 at 11:00 a.m.
