kennethKenneth Leon Dunlap, “Pops,” went peacefully home to God on June 19, 2015, surrounded by his family after a battle with vascular dementia. He was 77 years old.
Ken was a beloved father of three, husband of 50 years, and friend to many. He was a compassionate and gentle man who loved God, his children and grandchild, and truly lived his life for all of them.
He was a passionate supporter and graduate of Auburn University and a pharmacist for almost 50 years. He was an avid ham radio operator (K4UVJ) for most of his life and made many friends through all of these passions. He also served in the United States Naval Reserve.
He leaves a legacy of generosity throughout his life and in his decision to give his body for research to Meharry Medical College.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Ferris and Dolly Langley Dunlap, of Florence, and his sister, Kathryn Dunlap Riley, of Killen. He is survived by his brothers, Don and James Dunlap; his dedicated wife, Barbara Anderson Dunlap; his children, Tiffany Dunlap (and Beth Uhlman), of Birmingham, Alabama, Holly Dunlap, of Florence, and Andrew Dunlap, of Glenwood Springs, Colorado, and his precious grandchild, Israel “Izzy” Dunlap-Hoover.
The celebration service of Ken’s life will be held at Edgemont United Methodist Church in Florence on Thursday, June 25, at 1 p.m. with visitation immediately following.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Alzheimer’s Foundation or the Auburn University Pharmacy School.
Our family would also like to thank the wonderful teams at WICP adult day services, Southern Care Hospice, Mitchell Hollingsworth, and the many friends and family who have cared for him and us over the last years of his life.
