Kenneth Clay Mitchell – Obituary

Kenneth Clay Mitchell, 86, passed away at his residence on February 6, 2017, after a brief illness.

Visitation will be Thursday, February 9, 2017, from 12-2 p.m. with funeral service to follow in Greenview Memorial Chapel. Officiating will be Jimmy Oliver and Janet Silvious. Burial will be in Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens with military honors.

Kenneth was born on June 13, 1930, in Tuscumbia, AL. He graduated from Deshler High School. He was employed by the Tuscumbia Water Department prior to enlisting in the US Air Force. After honorably serving in the Korean War, he began his career at Reynolds Aluminum Company and later entered the machinist apprenticeship program with TVA. In 1963, he was awarded the outstanding machinist apprentice for all of TVA. After transferring to Knoxville, TN, he ended his career as Assistant Branch chief in Labor Relations. After retiring, Kenneth enjoyed spending time at the lake, traveling and was focused upon his family, who he loved infinitely.

Survivors include his daughter, Angela Harris, her husband Jim, Florence, his granddaughter Eva Marie Harris, Florence, his sisters Talma James, Oakland, TN, Jane Sledge, Florence and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, June Davenport Mitchell, sisters, Verna Fulgham, Lois Kent, Marie Troutman, Jean Viets and brothers Charles, Harold, and Glenn Mitchell.

Kenneth was known as someone who would do anything for anyone and a lifelong believer in paying it forward. Always quick with a laugh, smile or story, he was loved by many and will be missed dearly.

He was a member of St. James United Methodist Church.

Pallbearers will be Gary Bray, Kerry James, Charlie Silvious, Bobby Swinea, Bernie Akin, Ken Bailey, and Campbell King.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Cancer Research Center.
