Kenneth Clarence Umsted, 80, of Athens, AL peacefully passed on December 4, 2018. Ken was a native of Page, North Dakota where he graduated from Page High School in 1956.
He later worked in the Pentagon while he served in the United States Air Force. Ken moved to Huntsville, AL
to work in the space program. He spent most of his years employed by Intergraph. In his retirement, Ken
enjoyed being a small business owner and following the many activities of his beloved grandchildren.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents Raymond and Gladys Umsted and brothers David Umsted
and Curtis Umsted. He is survived by Linda Raye Pope Umsted, his wife of 47 years.
In addition he is survived by his son, Keith Groce; daughter, Patty Tribble (Bill); grandchildren, Ashley
Palguta (Mike); Melissa Gaddis (Joel); Kaleigh Tribble; Cameron Tribble; Zach Tribble; great-grandchildren,
Colton and Callie Palguta; brothers, James Umsted (Rosemary); Jerry Umsted (Julie); sisters, Betty Hickman,
Fran Miller, Marilyn Peterson (John), Sharon Johnson, Diane Eckert (Jim); and several nieces and nephews.
Ken leaves behind a host of loving family and close friends.
A memorial service will be held January 12, 2019 at Midway Baptist Church in Athens, AL at 2pm.
