Beloved Tupelo citizen, civic leader, and committed Christian woman, Kay Morrison Mathews peacefully slipped away to her eternal home from NMMC-Tupelo after a brief illness. Kay was the wife of Dan Mathews, Sr., the mother of Marci Mathews Sliman and Dan Mathews, Jr. and grandmother to three. She was the wind beneath the wings of the Regional Rehabilitation Center in Tupelo beginning in l965 where she began her career as a Master Speech Therapist. Her love for the Rehab Center is legendary until her dying day. She spent over 20 years as Executive Director, maintaining her professional role as a speech therapist. She was a longtime member of the Junior Auxiliary and received their highest award, Tupelo’s Citizen of the Year in 2023. Last year, 2024, she was honored with the prestigious Red Rasberry Humanitarian Award from the Regional Rehab Center. A longtime faithful and active member of Calvary Baptist
Church in Tupelo, Kay’s faith was exercised every day in the kindness and love she spread among clients of the RRC. She and Dan were adventurous souls traveling the USA camping, mountain climbing and motorcycle riding. They adventured abroad as well.
A service celebrating Kay’s life will be held at 1 PM Thursday, October 16, 2025, at Calvary Baptist Church. Visitation will be 11 Am untill service time.
