Kathy Jean Goode Watkins, 75, passed away on Thursday, September 30. Kathy was born on August 19, 1946, in Gadsden, Alabama. Kathy was a long-time resident of Huntsville. She was preceded in death by her parents Robert and Nadene Goode; her husband, Hugh Watkins; her son, Robert Watkins; and her brother, Rodney Goode.
Kathy is survived by her daughter and favorite son-in-law, Jeana and Derek Phillips; her grandchildren, Andrew (Anna) and Keri; her sister, Peggy Holcomb; her aunt, Joyce Roberts; nieces and nephews; and many close friends.
A member of Whitesburg Baptist Church, Kathy enjoyed her beloved group of ladies in Morning Glories, a ministry to widows; and served ministering to those that were homebound. She also loved attending Bible Study Fellowship where she could dig deeper into scripture with others. Kathy was a gentle spirit that was filled with compassion and grace. She was a wonderful mom, MiMother, sister, aunt, and friend.
Visitation will be Monday at 12:00 p.m. with a celebration of Kathy’s life at 1:00 p.m. at Whitesburg Baptist Church South Campus.
In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Whitesburg Baptist Church Morning Glories or to the Whitesburg Baptist Church Library. Kathy’s family referred to her as a “walking library.” You could catch her on any given Sunday morning trading books to read with others!
