Kathy Fortenberry Pope, age 70 of Dora, passed away October 24, 2022. She is preceded in death by her husband, Harvey “Buddy” Pope; daughter, Cindy Sanford; former husband, friend, and father of her children, James O’Neal Woodard; parents, Odis and Inez Fortenberry; and her grandparents; great-grandson, Easton James Hilburn; brothers, Johnny, Larry, and Mac Fortenberry.
Kathy is survived by her daughter, Kristin Smith (Jason), grandchildren Marissa Hilburn (Manley), Cierra, Isabella, and Alexander Smith; great-grandchildren, Orson and Calvin Hilburn; sister-in-law, Debra Fortenberry; niece, Jonica Mann, and nephews Johnny, Bryant, and Daniel Fortenberry.
Kathy was a lifetime member of Sumiton Church of God. She enjoyed teaching the 3rd grade Sunday school class for many years. Kathy was a graduate of Corner High School. She never missed watching an Alabama football game, and she loved listening to the Bee Gees and Alan Jackson. Her favorite thing to do was spending time with and supporting her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Services to honor her life will be held on October 28, 2022 at New Horizon Memorial Funeral Home with visitation starting at 1pm followed by a funeral service at 2pm with burial following in McCormack Cemetery. Rev. Lane Sargent will officiate.
