Kathy Bessie (Andrews) Mathis, 67, died on July 24, 2023.
Kathy was born in Bradenton, Florida on July 7, 1956, to Frank and Corine (Gallagher) Andrews. She graduated from West Point High School, then attended Florida College in Temple Terrace, Florida. She received her bachelor’s degree in Secondary English with a minor in Library Science from the University of North Alabama.
Kathy recently retired from East Limestone High School after 25 years of service, where she helped to procure several grants and donations to improve her beloved library. A firm believer in the power of reading, Kathy constantly tried to match everyone with their perfect book. She was a trusted friend and colleague to many over the years, and she was known as “Mama Mathis” to many. She especially loved dogs and Hallmark movies.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Donald. Kathy is survived by her loving husband of 40 years, Glen Mathis; daughter, Cori Mathis of Nashville, Tennessee; son, Joshua Mathis (Amanda Beckelhimer) of Springfield, Oregon; brother, Thomas (Terry) Andrews of Bell, Florida; and many loving relatives.
Visitation will take place at Limestone Chapel on Saturday, July 29, from 2-4 pm, with the funeral service immediately following and ministers Thomas Andrews and Greg Tucker officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Kathy to East Limestone High School, c/o the library.
