Dr. Katherine McGahee died peacefully at home Sunday September 5th in Huntsville, Alabama. Born in Annapolis, MD she was raised in Huntsville, Alabama and graduated from Grissom High School in 1972. She earned her BS in Biology from Auburn University in 1976 and received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Mississippi State University in 2001.
She was a devoted and beloved mother. Kathy was always quick with a smile and ready for an extended impromptu conversation. Her warmhearted sociability was balanced with a deeper tenacity and grit. She continued to pursue her goals despite setbacks and obstacles.
As a lifelong equestrian and animal lover, she achieved her life’s dream when she became a veterinarian. Although she enjoyed practicing both large and small animal veterinary medicine, she especially loved every opportunity to work with horses.
She is survived by her brother, Nelson McGahee (Borden); two sons, Christopher (Christy) and William (Stephanie) Perkins; and five grandchildren, Grover and Oliver Perkins, Katlynn Perkins, Madison and Mason Pittman.
No public service is planned.
