Karen Lynn (Anderson) Powers born September 1, 1946, passed away on July 13, 2023, at the age of 76 after an extended illness resulting in pulmonary complications from Myleofibrosis.
Born in Roseland, Illinois, she is preceded in death by her parents John Edgar Anderson, Lucille Anderson, and younger brother Kent Anderson.
Karen graduated from Thornton Township High School in 1964 and went to beauty school in Chicago following high school graduation. Karen met the love of her life in 1965 and they married September 4, 1965. Karen was a hairdresser until around 1970 when the first of three children came along and then she became a full-time homemaker.
Karen’s passion was family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren, her church family, teaching children, and serving others. She loved taking pictures and documenting family activities. Karen was a faithful and humble servant for Christ. She was a seeker of knowledge and truth from studying the Bible. Her family has found multiple notebooks filled with her notes and writings about her Bible studies. She worked tirelessly for over 20 years in the children’s ministry at Oaklawn Baptist Church as well as serving on the visitation team for the shut-ins. Karen loved all people and never met a stranger. If Karen knew you, she was your biggest cheerleader and would support you. She is loved by many and her kindness was exceptional. She was always smiling, laughing, making conversation, and cracking jokes. Karen lived her faith and joy every day. In her final days she was smiling and so joyful despite how sick her body was. Karen is now free of all illness and weakness. We know she went into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ with a big smile and a strong heart.
Survived by her husband of 57 years, Claude Donald Powers; children: Donald Kent Powers (Jennifer); Theresa Lynn Baggett (Stephen), John David Powers (Dorrie); grandchildren: Trent Guiles Powers, Tabitha Ruth Gwen Haley (Taylor), Emily Ryan Hunter (Nathaneal), Jeni Alise Powers, and Mason Claude Powers; five great-grandchildren: Keeli Bristol Powers, Braxton Alexander Hoyt Griffin, Finnian Cobain Coffman, Layla Ann Haley and Lily Annalise Haley; her brother Keith Anderson (CeCi) of McCloud, California, several cousins and extended family, and many friends.

The family requests in lieu of flowers that you make a tithe to Oaklawn Baptist Church of Winchester, Tennessee in Karen’s honor or a church of your choosing, go visit a shut-in, teach a children’s church class, or perform an act of kindness for someone in need.
