FLORENCE-Florence Arts & Museums is excited to announce the continuation of the Junior Museum Program, a hands-on educational opportunity forย students ages 14-18. Led by museum professionals Ana Peeples and Michael Asher, the program will provide participants with the chance to collaborate on designing and creating an exhibit at Popeโs Tavern Museum.
The program will run weekly fromย January 13thย to Feb 17th 2026, with sessions being held from 4:00โ6:00 p.m. at Popeโs Tavern Museum, located at 203 Hermitage Drive, Florence, AL 35630.
This free afterschool program is designed for high school students, with a special focus on 10th graders, and is an excellent fit for any student interested in history, storytelling, or community engagement. The Junior Museum Program is built around the 10th Grade Social Studies Standards and gives students the chance to:
-Explore Black History of the Shoals area
-Conduct research and organize information in both presentation and film formats using Adobe tools
-Interview community members to document how Black History has evolved from the early 19th century to today
-Create a temporary documentary film that will be featured as a special exhibit at Popeโs Tavern
